another day in paradise

always have this feeling. hate this!!
just want to spend time with them but they want to spend time with the computer.
so what to do??
am hoping i can drag them away to play a game before dinner time.
and i'm working out what to do with the blog, my rampant fiction ideas and trying to get it all down on paper.
at the moment, i really do not care though.

somewhat better today. not really since nothing got done. but there was laundry. and there were lunches. and there was the pool. and we had rain. and thunder (and lightning). and i watched the lovely scot looking hot.

nothing was read though. i miss my vampires. a lot.

endings?

feels like the end of summer already and it's still only mid august. i can't decide if it's the cooler weather, the football on tv or all the talk of the beach trip and back to school!! i know everyone is winding down, i am just not ready yet. i don't want the cooler weather. i don't want all the homework and leg work and dumb stuff. i just want another few more weeks. it's really 3 weeks i guess so that's not so bad.

at least most of the wedding stuff is complete. shoes, trousers, dresses, tights...just need haircuts and maybe the hair thing!!

feeling somewhat better this month. not so crazed. a good thing i know. i just know i NEED something!!

wedding stuff begins

hubby has his tux fitting tonight!! joy! at least i don't have to participate this time. he's going with his brother and dad. and it's local. the bride to be is coming back in another week's time. i am going this weekend to look for floral supplies.
i do need to try girlchild's dress on her though. and she has new shoes. i wish i could get the oldest one the $15 payless black oxfords!! next week is my crazyhead week so i have NOTHING planned, the following week is haircut week though...3 of us at the hairdresser's (that's three separate visits for my sanity). and trims for the boys and the hubman (i cut theirs earlier this week, cos they were SO shaggy).
oh and packing to go away!! we're still undecided on one or two cars....one will be tight (all of us and dad and all our stuff and a roof bag). hubman thinks we should do one and just pack lighter (??) not sure how that is possible since i pack so lightly already, he thinks i take too much food. i am tempted to just let him have his way and send the kids to HIM when their foods aren't available. the only things i take above the snack foods for the car (always empty when we get there) and we'll need lunch for the way down, are foods not available (so TJs snacks mostly and yogurt).
everyone gets 3 changes of clothing, one bathing suit and a pool towel. he wants to take less pool towels, but we USE them. honestly there's NO clue. he says "we can just wash them" i think "you mean, i CAN wash them". i do so much laundry there...and it's slow cos the washer and dryer are tiny.

wet thursdays

how sad is it when we are happy for a day (hour??) of rain!! i'm glad it was today and not yesterday, i guess this is why the temp was going to fall. it's only in the 80s today. our playdate this afternoon is for small boychildren today at P's house. they are here every week but it's our turn to go there before our vacays get in the way.
i hate getting up and motivated in the morning...so much to do and never enough time! i am procrastinating again!!

baltimore

had a fun and hot day in baltimore with my friend from california B her hubby and two kids!! we managed to find one another at the visitor's center (i always worry when i'm meeting someone at a large place that we won't find one another). course i'm the one with all the crazy kids!! ;-) unbelievably hot there, sunshine and sunburn (mine)....

we ended up on a free parks tour which was really cool. our guide pointed out some local history and then walked us to the world trade center building (we got to go up free!). after a pop your ears hollow stomach ride to the 27th floor, we had a great view of the city. same distance to san fran as it is to iceland!! ;-) we did not lose any children on the way down, though my one son locked the revolving door (and hubby unlocked it).

then it was a rather calm lunch from the food court in the food building!! a few bathroom visits, no one fell thru the bars to the floor below and we went back to the visitor's center where it was cool. refilled water bottles and then headed to the brazilian naval ship for a tour. i know my hubby enjoyed that tour, he's all about the ships and navy. he pointed out the ship parts (and the quartermaster with the GUN perched on the top).

again we lost no one over board, freckled boy managed to NOT undo the door and we all made it up and down the stairs which was quite a feat (tall ladders, small girlchild).

in the midst of this B and i chatted, we took some photos, and we looked at a christmas tree store :-)
oh and the fudgery fudge....buy 3, get 2 free. we're SUCH pushovers!! :-)

soul of a reception

it was a fun night. i wasn't really sure what to expect. thankfully we were sat with hubby's workmates. i chatted to the ladies and the men, hubby and i even danced a dance. i am not so much a dancer anymore. not even with a few drinks in me. the band were good, but they were LOUD. so hard to chat over their playing. there was nicer quieter music between the sets.
the food was tolerable. i should have just had a big salad, the chicken and the choco cake!! and of course all the vino!!
lost my favourite lipstick, but i'll get a new one i suppose.
and realised i need new more comfortable shoes to walk in for the wedding next month. i think the cute crocs will get me thru the dancing at that one though!! ;-)

bookish

interesting bookclub tonight! P gave me a ride, which was great. then i could have some wine! strange that the S-mom was SO into the wine and acting all silly and so forth. talked to P about it later and we wondered why! weird mutterings and innuendo stuff. just odd. i guess we're all past that showing off crappe!
chatting to P was more in depth than usual. about friends and relationships and family. i wish i could read her mind, try to get her to tell ME what's behind those queries.
and her "is your relationship still as fresh as it was" took me by surprise. i wasn't sure how to answer that. esp in a public (ish) place.
